Getac claims that its Z710-Ex is the toughest Android tablet in the game. Carrying ATEX certification, this new version of the Getac tablet is ready to use in hazardous and explosive environments.
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet also comes with MIL-STD 810G and IP65 accreditation, meaning it meets military grade ruggedness, as well as offering protection against the ingress of dust and water.
The new certification is designed to make it accessible to those working in petrochemical industries so the tablet can be used in maintenance and inspection tasks and, like other Getac products, is designed for a life of hard work in the field.
In terms of hardware, the Getac Z710-Ex comes with a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, with a top layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. There’s a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor at the core and battery life that’s cited at 8-10 hours.
There’s been a growing trend to “life proof” consumer phones and tablets recently: if you’re looking for something a little slicker, perhaps the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be more suitable: it’s water resistant, but Modern Combat 4 is probably the closest you want to take it to the front line.
