90min Three minutes added on. City could do with some last-day of the
season frolics here.
89min Anichebe off, Jelavic on. Another sizzling reception as the
Everton makes way.
89min Frenetic, pacy finish to this one. All off the possession in
Everton’s half. Deep into their half. Can they hold on?
86min Kolarov it is with the freekick. Straight into the wall.
85min Tevez lets loose with one of those quick runs inside. His shot
launches into Fellaini, who jumps into it. It wraps him on his flaying arms.
No penalty! And he was way inside the box. Instead, Tevez stands over this
one on the edge of the D.
83min Toure off, Scott Sinclair on. City completely changing their
make-up now in a bid to earn a, much-undeserved, point.
81min Wave after wave now. Ripping cross in from Kolarov across goal,
right in front of the posts. Tevez goes in, but Coleman – who has had a
blinder today – clears for a corner.
78min Thank you very Mucha! City on constant attack now. Zabaleta has a
chance here on the edge of the six-yard box and the keeper smothers
brilliantly to deny the City skipper.
77min Coleman causes havoc down the right. No one in the City box, as
you’d expect with 10 men. Still, they earn a corner thanks to Fellaini’s
pressing. Distin just over with his header from Baines’ corner perfection.
75min Heitinga gets round the back of the City defence at the far post
from a free kick. Hart saves, but a free kick is awarded, for something very
minor. City straight on the attack.
72min Zabaleta dangerous down the right, Distin throws himself at the
attempted cross. Corner. Dzeko can’t get the glance on the corner and
respite for Everton.
71min Nasri off, Barry on for City. Naismith on for Mirallas. The
Everton fans boo at that decision, but then give him a standing ovation. His
legs were getting tired with Eveton down to 10.
68min More danger from Everton. Baines attempts another thunderbolt.
City launch an attack straight up field but fine work from Coleman to thwart
67min Dzeko flicks on for Tevez, his stab shot is saved by Mucha.
Here’s Milner! Great double save from Mucha.
66min Everton faithful making this a great din. Chants entwined with
boos for every City player.
65min This is a right old frenzy now. Throwback to the 70s. Milner the
latest to get in on the act. A launching tackel from behind on Mirallas. No
62min City try to pass out from defence. Everton seem to have two to
every City player and they continue to make hay in City’s half. Everton
faithful right on top of the ref at any given point now.
60min Pienaar a tad late on Garcia, who rolls over and feigns injury.
Why? Pienaar’s on a yellow and the ref is sucked in. RED CARD! To be fair,
it was a yellow, late on the shins of Garcia.
59min Baines delivers from a corner and Osman’s volley is shade over. A
deflection and more danger for City.
57min So nearly route one from Mucha to 2-0. Huge clearance up field,
Hart hurries out of goal and nearly a mix up with Toure with Coleman in the
mix. Corner Everton.
54min Fellaini right on the limits as he bundles over Zabaleta. City
beginning to press.
50min City just not at the races today. Too easy for Everton. Visitors
hardly intent on pressing Citty here.
48min More bustle and tussle from Everton, who continue where they left
off the first half. Anichebe digs deep and forces City to clear.
Appreciation all round.
46min Off again at Goodison. This would be a significant win for the
Toffees. Have I thrown a spanner in Moyes’ works?
HT 45min Silva tracks back and earns a yellow. Story of the half. City
just can’t boss this one. Everton free-flowing on both flanks. It brings an
end to the half, too. Rapturous applause from the Everton faithful for good
43min Coleman nods just over City’s goal from a weak Hart punch.
Moments earlier Dzeko’s header does the same for City.
41min Sun parading down on Goodison and the job now for Everton is to
make sure the below stat doesn’t rear its head here again:
40min City flow forward and Tevez tries from 25 yards. His shot just
goes past Mucha’s far right post. City change to a back four as Mancini
proffers opinion on the touchline.
38min Anichebe fires just over from difficult range. Fine play down the
right this time.
35min Everton go for the charge. They deserve to be two-up at any rate.
Mirallas loses his footing in the box and goes down. No penalty, nothing
doing. Fellaini a constant menace. Everton causing havoc down the left.
GOAL!! EVERTON 1 MAN CITY 0. OSSSMMMAAAANNNN! A banana bender from Leon
Osman. It comes 25 yards out across goal and Osman lets loose. It could
have gone for a throw-in. Instead it launches into Hart’s net. Strange sort
of strike, hitting across it, but what a goal from the skipper for the day.
His fifth of the season.
30min Rugby at Goodison! Kolarov holds off Baines on the touchline and
both go into the hoardings. Another yellow shown. Free kick flown in to
Fellaini at the far post, his header plops into Hart’s hands.
28min Distin wins an aerial header in his own box as Barry goes in
late. Nothing doing. Goodison shows its derision and the referee has it all
to do now. Cool head, sir!
27min Tevez wins a semi-late challenge on Osman. Frustrated at no free
kick, Osman launches in and earns a yellow. City now with the flow and they
muster a free kick of their own, blasted straight at the two-man wall from a
24min Dzeko with a stabbed shot from the edge of the penalty box.
Straight at Hart.
23min Tevez motors, yes, down the left. He hasn’t had much of the ball
in the opening 20 mins but he forces the first save from Mucha with a low
right-footer from 20 yards. City edging back into this one.
22min Zabaleta and Silva neat one-twos as the City captain tries to
break the back four. It will take some of this magic to break the flow
served up by Everton right now.
21min Kolo Toure at full stretch to deny Baines another cross option.
20min More in-depth replays of Mirallas goal ruled out. Definitely not
offside. City more than a touch lucky. Everton well worth a goal lead at any
18min First attack of note for the visitors as Silva and Dzeko combine.
Into the arms of Mucha.
16min Another corner from Baines, fast approaching his 100th of the
season no less. Only one scored from it though and this latest one is,
indeed, cleared. Still, Everton bossing possession here.
13min Milner clashes into Osman. Fantastic shoulder barge from the
former. Needless, though, as another free kick in the City half for Everton.
Out wide to Baines and more aerial clearance needed from City. Mirallas with
a thunder bolt! Straight in the back of the net… but offside.
10min Early plaudits to the City XI. Goodison faithful right behind
their team in the opening salvos.
9min Great workk by Coleman down the right flank, darting past Silva
and Barry. Corner. Danger lurks as Hart is forced to punch clear in the
7min Blimey, Everton are going in hard (VERY HARD) on City here. No
holds barred stuff as Fellaini flies into Silva. It’s a yellow and the
Belgian misses the Stoke and Spurs games. Clear intent from Moyes’ team
5min Fellaini winning the midfield aerial battle early doors. Everton
move upfield as Milner carves down Baines, who attempted to go through his
legs. Dangerous free kick looms.
3min Fellaini and Gibson, whose goal decided this fixture last season,
combine down the right. Nothing doing though. Dzeko in the wars already.
Gone to ground twice.
1m So, Moyes says every ounce of effort will be employed today. Do they
need to? City, after all, don’t have an especiall good record against the
0min Off and running at Goodison Park. Forgive me, I’ve been covering
Cheltenham all week.
12.40 The Goodison matchday programme clearly a decent read today. Phil
Neville, who is on the bench, says that e “last Saturday was totally
unacceptable” and team want to make good today.
12.35 So, City are without talisman Yaya Toure as they look to
keep themselves in the title race with victory. The Ivory Coast midfielder
was forced to miss the trip to Goodison Park after suffering a migraine and
was replaced by Javi Garcia. Joe Hart, Matija Nastasic and James Milner come
back into the side.
Everton make two changes following their dismal FA Cup quarter-final
loss to Wigan, with Darron Gibson and Victor Anichebe replacing benched Phil
Neville and Nikica Jelavic.
12.30 Sounds ominously like Everton faithful going same way as Stoke
fans on Tony Pulis, well, following Cup defeat at Wigan at any rate. Can’t
be all bad, can it? Here’s David Moyes writing in today’s
I believe so much has changed since that very first game. The progress that
the club has made since then can by shown by Everton’s Premier League
standings, when in the last 10 seasons we’ve finished outside the top 10
only twice. I understand this will never satisfy everybody and nothing would
give me more pleasure than to bring the success that Everton had in the
1980s under Howard Kendall, with the great players that played for him. We
are striving to reach those levels and we put every ounce of effort into
trying to get back to that standard.
12.05 On this day in 2002, Everton manager David Moyes began with a
victory against Fulham. Omens?
12.00 Here are your XIs. Yaya Toure is out with an illness.

11.50 Ahead of official team news, have a feast on our preview….
Everton will again be without goalkeeper Tim Howard and defender Phil Jagielka
for the Premier League clash with Manchester City at Goodison Park.
Howard broke two bones in his back in the FA Cup fifth-round replay at Oldham
last month and Jan Mucha will continue to deputise, while Jagielka is
recovering from surgery to repair a cut to his ankle.
Everton manager David Moyes will assess a couple of other players who picked
up knocks in the defeat by Wigan last weekend while full-back Tony Hibbert
may not play again this season.
Manchester City are again without captain Vincent Kompany and striker Sergio
Defender Kompany, who has missed the last seven games, continues to be
troubled by calf issues while Agüero is in Argentina for treatment on the
knee problem that has already sidelined him for two matches.
Right-backs Micah Richards and Maicon and midfielder Jack Rodwell remain on
the long-term casualty list.
Everton are still without Tim Howard so Jan Mucha continues in goal.
In their last four games, in league and cup, Manchester City have scored 12
goals and conceded none, and that without captain and defender Vincent
Kompany and striker Sergio Agüero.
While City hope that United trip up and they maintain their good form, Everton
are wary that their season is beginning to implode
The 3-0 home defeat by wigan in the FA Cup has increased the pressure,
particularly as they Everton have also lost two of their last three in the
Another reverse could, indeed, prove damaging to David Moyes.
Betting: Home 23-10, Way 23-20, Draw 12-5.
Stat of the game: Manchester City have 59 points, seven fewer than they
had after 28 games last season.
John Ley’s prediction: Everton 0 Manchester City 2.
11.30 Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage from Goodison Park,
Everton chasing that coveted fourth spot in the table, Manchester City
hoping to rack up another three points and hopingh that rivals United falter
somewhere in the run-in.
